SIT requisition accuses Rao of being aware of corruption
The requisition to prosecute former Lokayukta Y. Bhaskar Rao, sent to the government by the Special Investigation Team looking into corruption charges within the Lokayukta, accused Mr. Rao of being “well aware of the corrupt activities and shielding some of the accused”, including his son Ashwin Y., when the matter was brought to his notice.
Sources said the letter is based on the statements of former BBMP Commissioner M. Lakshminayaran, who had stated that Ashwin had summoned him to the Lokayukta’s official residence to discuss a corruption complaint against the BBMP and sought official favours. Mr. Lakshminarayan had in turn informed Mr. Rao about “unconcerned persons,” including his son, discussing corruption cases, but no action was taken, sources added.
The SIT found that Ashwin used official resources to carry out his activities, sources said. Mr. Rao took no action against this and had a role in facilitating a religious pilgrimage for Syed Riyaz, former Joint Commissioner (Lokayukta), another accused, they added.
ADGP Kamal Pant, who heads the SIT, confirmed that they were awaiting the government’s response to move further with the case.

Karnataka ‘Extortion Racket’: SIT seeks nod to prosecute ex-Lokayukta .
A Special Investigation Team (SIT) probing charges of corruption against Ashwin Rao, the son of former Karnataka Lokayukta Justice Bhaskar Rao, has sought permission from the Congress government in the state to prosecute Justice Rao in connection with his son’s alleged crimes.
Justice Rao, former chief justice of Karnataka, had resigned as the state’s anti-corruption ombudsman last December.
The SIT has filed five chargesheets against Justice Rao’s son and his associates, including a former Lokayukta public relations officer, for allegedly using the office of the Lokayukta to extort money from state government officials. Now it has written to the state government for permission to initiate prosecution of Justice Rao, who has not been named as an accused so far in the five chargesheets, sources said. The retired senior judge is being sought to be prosecuted under charges of abetment of the crimes of his son.
